ERA OF MINDS

Is Claude Opus 5.5 free in Antigravity on a Google AI Pro trial? What the viral posts get wrong

Short answer

No. A free Google AI Pro trial, the 18-month Jio offer or a free student year does not unlock Claude Opus 5.5 or Sonnet 5.5 in Google Antigravity. The Antigravity models page still says "non-trial subscriptions only" on October 24, 2026. One part of the viral claim is half right: since October 23, Gemini 4 Argon works on a trial that came with an eligible premium device. And the Claude 4.6 models that trials get today are scheduled to disappear on November 2, 2026.

Era of Minds cover: Free Opus 5.5? Not on a trial. A retyped copy of the viral October 23, 2026 claim (64,774 views) above a table of which Antigravity models a Google AI Pro trial, a device-bundled trial and a paid Pro plan get.

What did the viral "Opus 5.5 for free" posts say?

On October 23, 2026 a run of near-identical posts on X told people who had claimed a $0 Google AI Pro trial to check Antigravity, Google's agent-first coding app. The biggest one, from @k2sbhai at 09:28 UTC (13:28 Dubai), read: "Claude Opus 5.5 and Gemini 4 Argon for FREE ... after waiting a few days, trial subscribers are getting access to these models in Google Antigravity too."

When we checked through the X API on the morning of October 24 (Dubai):

  • @k2sbhai: 64,774 views, 549 likes, 427 bookmarks, 37 reposts.
  • @hqmank: 31,633 views and 299 likes, with a more careful line: some Jio users report access, others on the same trial can't see the models, and Google hasn't confirmed anything.
  • @anya_yfa7: 13,558 views and 93 likes, with the same "try it here" wording.

Most of these posts end in a "try it here" link. The bookmarks tell you what people wanted: a way to use Anthropic's top model without paying for it.

Can a Google AI Pro trial use Claude Opus 5.5 in Antigravity?

No. This is the model table on the Antigravity models page, as served on October 24, 2026:

  • Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 (thinking): not on Free or Google AI Plus. On Google AI Pro, "available on Google AI Pro for non-trial subscriptions only." Included on Ultra and Enterprise.
  • Gemini 4 Argon: not on Free or Plus. On Pro, "available with paid Google AI Pro plans or on trial with eligible premium devices." Not in the standalone Antigravity IDE.
  • Gemini 3.8 Flash: every plan, including Free.
  • Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120b: on Free, Plus and Pro, marked "will be removed on November 2, 2026."

The Antigravity FAQ is just as direct: some models "require a paid Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription and are not included in free trials."

Google's support staff on the Google AI Developers Forum have given the same answer to every version of the question. On October 6 they said plans from a free promotional offer or a student discount period count as trials. On October 22, replying to a Jio user, they said Argon, Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 "remain restricted to directly billed subscriptions."

Does the Jio free Google AI Pro plan count as a trial?

Yes. This is the case most of the viral posts were about. Jio's 18-month Google AI Pro offer in India shows as "Offered through Jio" in Google One, and Google does not bill it directly. In a forum thread with 1,400 views, staff confirmed that partner-bundled plans "are classified under the promotional/trial entitlement tier and do not include access to Claude 5.5."

What the Jio plan does keep: Pro-level quota for Gemini 3.8 Flash, which refreshes every five hours until a weekly limit (per the plans page), and Claude 4.6 plus GPT-OSS until November 2.

Google treats these as trials too:

  • Free Google AI Pro trials and introductory $0 offers
  • Partner and carrier bundles, such as Jio, Pixel Pass and Google Fi
  • Free 12-month student offers
  • Months included with a device, such as a Pixel phone or a Googlebook

Students on a discounted plan that bills monthly are a grey zone. Android Authority reported Reddit users on reduced-price plans getting Argon, while a forum user on the 75%-off paid student plan said on October 22 that Argon still showed "Unavailable."

What changed for Gemini 4 Argon on October 23?

This is the part of the claim that is partly true, and probably where the confusion started.

Argon reached Antigravity on paid Pro and Ultra, per Google's launch post. Then device buyers complained. One forum thread came from a long-time paying subscriber whose new Pixel 11 Pro included six free months of AI Pro. Taking the phone perk had moved his account to the trial tier and locked him out of Argon.

On October 23, 2026 at 19:17 UTC, Google staff replied to another Pixel owner with an update: "Gemini 4 Argon is available with paid Google AI Pro plans or on trial with eligible premium devices." The models page now carries the same footnote next to Argon.

What did not change:

  • The footnote covers Argon only. Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 still say non-trial only.
  • Google has not published which devices count as "eligible premium devices."
  • Jio and plain free trials are not devices, so they are still out.

If you came here for Argon itself, we explained its strangest moment in the Gemini 4 Argon "I MUST NOT DO THAT" quote.

Why do some trial users say they can see Opus 5.5?

We can't verify any single screenshot, but there are a few plain explanations:

  • The account is paid. The screenshot came from a directly billed plan.
  • It is a paid discounted plan. A student plan that bills monthly is not the same as the free student year.
  • Entitlements are glitching. On October 23 a student in India posted that Antigravity showed Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 but hid other Gemini models. That looks like an account sync problem, not a new policy.
  • The model name was misread. Claude Opus 4.6 sits in the same picker, and in the same "Claude and GPT models" quota bucket.

The only check that matters is your own. Update Antigravity, sign out and back in (Google's October 19 update gives that advice), then open the model selector under the prompt box. If Opus 5.5 is not listed or is greyed out, your plan is in the trial tier.

What happens to trial users on November 2, 2026?

They lose Claude completely. Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120b are all marked for removal on that date. Staff wrote on October 6 that after November 2, "third-party model access will be an exclusive benefit for fully paid plans."

So the realistic picture for a Jio or free-trial user is the opposite of the viral posts. Today you have Claude Opus 4.6. In nine days you have Gemini 3.8 Flash only, unless you pay.

If your workflow depends on Claude in Antigravity, plan for that date now. Export any long-running conversations or agent setups you rely on, and check which AI coding tools you could move to. If you mostly use Claude Code, cheaper habits like compressing tokens with Headroom stretch a paid plan further.

How do you switch from a trial to paid Google AI Pro?

Two routes, both from Google:

  1. Google trial: the Antigravity FAQ says to submit a request through Google One support to cancel the trial and switch to paid Pro, or upgrade straight to Ultra.
  2. Jio or another partner: Google staff said you can change plans in the Google One app under Menu, Settings, Change membership plan. The partner membership is cancelled automatically so you are not billed twice.

Both routes end the free months. Before you do it, ask whether you need Opus 5.5 or Argon inside Antigravity specifically. Argon also runs in the Gemini app and AI Mode for Pro subscribers, as Android Authority pointed out, so its absence from Antigravity doesn't mean your subscription lacks it everywhere.

After switching, update to the latest App or CLI (the October 19 update named App v2.24.0, CLI v1.4.2 and IDE v2.5.5), then sign out and back in. Argon only appears in the App, the CLI and the IDE extensions, not the standalone IDE.

The same "free Opus 5.5" idea turned up again on October 27 in a viral Hi3D post that says you can "refine the details with Opus 5.5" after making a 3D model from a photo. Opus is a language model, not a mesh editor; we checked what the Hi3D open-source model actually does.

Is the "free Opus 5.5" post a scam?

Not necessarily. Most of these accounts were probably passing on a rumor they believed. But the pattern is worth knowing: many near-identical posts within a few hours, each with a "try it here" link, promising a paid model for free. That is how referral and engagement farming usually looks.

Two rules keep you safe. Never sign in to a third-party page that claims to unlock Antigravity models, because only Google's own app checks your plan. And don't use outside tools to reach Antigravity: its FAQ says using third-party software to access it violates the terms and "can result in suspension or termination of your account."

A day later the same account pushed a second freebie, "Claude Fable 5 for free" on a third-party gateway. We checked that one too: is the Oxion AI DEVWEEK offer legit?

It is the same lesson as the Supabase "12 Claude agents" joke and the Kronos 93% claim: the viral line is shorter than the fine print, and the fine print is what decides whether it works for you.

FAQ

Can I get Claude Opus 5.5 free in Google Antigravity?

Not through a trial. Antigravity's models page says Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 are available on Google AI Pro for non-trial subscriptions only, and Google AI Ultra. Free trials, partner offers such as Jio, Pixel promotions and 12-month student offers are treated as Google AI Pro (Trial). The free and AI Plus tiers get Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 instead, until November 2, 2026.

Does the Jio free Google AI Pro plan include Claude Opus 5.5 in Antigravity?

No. Google's Antigravity support staff answered this on the Google AI Developers Forum on October 5 and again on October 22, 2026: the 18-month Jio offer is provisioned as a promotional trial, so Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 do not appear in the model picker. It still gets Pro-level quota for Gemini 3.8 Flash.

Can a Google AI Pro trial use Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity?

Only if the trial came with an eligible premium device. On October 23, 2026 a Google staff reply on the forum said Gemini 4 Argon is now available with paid Google AI Pro plans or on trial with eligible premium devices, and the models page carries the same footnote. Google has not published the list of eligible devices. Jio and plain free trials are still locked out.

Why do some trial users say they see Opus 5.5 in Antigravity?

Some users on X and the forum report it, but Google has not confirmed any change for Claude 5.5. The models page, checked October 24, 2026, still says non-trial only. A screenshot can come from a paid account, a discounted student plan that bills monthly, or a short-lived entitlement glitch. Open your own model picker before you rely on it.

What happens to Claude 4.6 in Antigravity on November 2, 2026?

Claude Sonnet 4.6, Claude Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120b are marked to be removed on November 2, 2026. After that, Google says third-party models will need a directly paid Google AI Pro or Ultra plan, so trial and Jio users keep only the Gemini models.

How do I switch from a Google AI Pro trial to paid Pro?

Antigravity's FAQ says trial users can submit a request through Google One support to cancel the trial and move to paid Pro, or upgrade straight to Ultra. For Jio and other partner plans, Google staff said you can change membership in the Google One app under Menu, Settings, Change membership plan, and the partner plan is cancelled automatically to avoid double billing. You give up the rest of the free period.

Is Gemini 4 Argon in the Antigravity IDE?

Not in the standalone Antigravity IDE. The models page says Argon is available in the Antigravity App, the Antigravity CLI and the IDE extensions. Google's October 19 forum update listed App v2.24.0 and CLI v1.4.2 as the first versions with Argon, and said to sign out and back in after updating.
