FAQ schema generator: turn questions and answers into FAQPage JSON-LD

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

Short answer

FAQ schema is FAQPage structured data: a JSON-LD block listing each question as a Question with an acceptedAnswer. Type your questions and answers below and this FAQ schema generator writes the script tag, escaped and ready to paste. One thing to know first: Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026, so the markup no longer earns the dropdowns in Google results. It is still valid schema.org markup that describes your page.

What is FAQ schema?

FAQ schema means marking up a list of questions and answers with the schema.org FAQPage type, usually as JSON-LD in a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag. Each item is a Question whose name is the question and whose acceptedAnswer is an Answer with the text. Machines can then read the Q&A without guessing from your HTML.

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?

No. Google added a deprecation notice on May 8, 2026, saying the FAQ rich result would no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026, and removed the FAQ rich result documentation on June 15, 2026 (Google Search Central changelog). Before that, since September 2023, Google had already limited FAQ rich results to well-known, authoritative government and health sites.

So be clear about what you get. FAQ markup will not put expandable questions under your Google listing any more. What it still does is describe your page in a standard, machine-readable way that any search engine, browser or AI system reading structured data can parse. And the visible FAQ on the page, written as direct answers to real questions, is useful to readers either way. That part matters more than the markup.

How does this FAQ schema generator work?

  • Every row with both a question and an answer becomes a Question. Rows missing either half are skipped and flagged.
  • The output is built with JSON.stringify, so quotes, backslashes and line breaks in your text are escaped correctly.
  • Every < is written as \u003c, so an answer containing </script> cannot break out of the script tag. JSON parsers read it back as the same character.
  • If you add the page URL, it sets @id to your-url#faq so other markup on the page can reference it.
  • It warns about duplicate questions and HTML tags outside the small set (headings, p, br, lists, links, bold, italic) that Google accepted in answers when the feature existed.

Worked example: two questions, the finished JSON-LD

Input: "What is an llms.txt file?" and "Does llms.txt help Google rankings?" with short answers. Output:

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "@id": "https://eraofminds.com/tools/llms-txt-generator/#faq",
  "mainEntity": [
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "What is an llms.txt file?",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "A markdown file at /llms.txt that gives AI agents a short summary of a site and a list of links to read."
      }
    },
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "Does llms.txt help Google rankings?",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "No. Google says llms.txt is not needed for Google Search and does not affect rankings."
      }
    }
  ]
}
</script>

That is the same structure we use on every Era of Minds post, including our AI detection tool comparison.

How do you add FAQ schema to a page?

  1. Write the FAQ on the page first, visible to readers. The markup should match what people can see.
  2. Paste the generated script tag in the page's <head> or anywhere in the <body>.
  3. Check it parses: paste the page or code into the Schema Markup Validator.
  4. Use one FAQPage block per page. If the page has other JSON-LD, you can combine them in an @graph array.

FAQ schema vs QAPage: which one?

Use FAQPage when you, the site owner, wrote both the questions and the answers. Use QAPage for a page where one question gets answers from users, like a forum thread. Google added more supported QAPage and discussion forum properties in March 2026, per the same changelog.

FAQ

What is FAQ schema?

FAQ schema is structured data using the schema.org FAQPage type. Each question is a Question with a name, and its answer is an acceptedAnswer of type Answer with a text property, usually written as JSON-LD.

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?

No. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in Search starting May 7, 2026 and removed the documentation on June 15, 2026. Since 2023 they had been limited to authoritative government and health sites.

Is FAQ schema still worth adding?

It no longer earns FAQ rich results in Google. It is still valid schema.org markup that describes your page for systems that read structured data, and a visible FAQ with direct answers helps readers regardless.

Where do I put FAQ schema JSON-LD?

Inside a script tag with type application/ld+json, in the head or body of the page that shows the same questions and answers.

Can I use HTML in FAQ schema answers?

Plain text is safest. When the rich result existed, Google accepted a small set of tags in answers: headings, p, br, ol, ul, li, a, div, b, strong, i and em.

Is this FAQ schema generator free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser, so your questions and answers are not uploaded.
